Start by identifying what actually expired
A website outage, hosting invoice and domain expiry are not interchangeable. Check the exact domain in WHOIS and compare it with your account invoice. If the registry cannot be reached, retry or ask the registrar; a failed lookup is not evidence of deletion. Note the published expiry, status and the time you checked.
What the 30-day period means
Decision ANRT 02/2024 defines a 30-day expiration grace period. Articles 33–34 distinguish expiry, renewal and cancellation. Article 33.4 provides for a billed one-year renewal after the expiration grace period; cancellation follows a different path. Do not apply a .com deletion timeline or assume the name becomes available on day 31. Ask your provider for the exact current status and required action.
Act through the current provider
Contact the provider with the domain, account reference and the observed dates. Ask whether renewal, re-registration after cancellation or another procedure applies. Pay through the verified account and request confirmation that the registry operation succeeded, not merely that payment was received.
- Recover access to the registered contact email if needed.
- Ask for the total charge and the deadline in writing.
- After confirmation, compare the expiry date and nameservers again.
Restore services and prevent another incident
If registration is restored but the site remains unavailable, check DNS, hosting and HTTPS separately. Test email rather than assuming it recovered with the website. Keep two internal renewal reminders, accurate contact details and a backup payment method. If a name has already been deleted and registered by someone else, recovery cannot be promised by a lookup tool.
