DNS Lookup.
Inspect the records that connect a domain to its services. A simple tool. A clearer picture.
Explore domain extensions worldwide+
Find a country-code or international extension. Available data depends on each registry.
Source: official IANA directory. Some registries do not offer an automated public service.Use DNS to diagnose a service
Check A and AAAA for website addresses, MX for incoming email and NS for the DNS provider. A name can be registered with no visible records. Save existing values before a change and check both the root domain and www afterward.
Understand this result
Compare these answers with your provider’s intended settings. TTL is the returned cache lifetime in seconds; it is not a countdown until every visitor sees a change. A missing record can be normal for an unused service. NXDOMAIN means the queried name did not resolve; SERVFAIL or another error is a failed DNS answer, not availability.
- A
- IPv4 address for this hostname. Verify it against the hosting provider’s value.
- AAAA
- IPv6 address. Check IPv6 connectivity if some visitors cannot open the site.
- MX
- Incoming mail server; lower preference numbers are tried first. No MX does not diagnose all possible mail delivery configurations.
- NS
- Nameservers for the domain. Edit records at the authoritative DNS provider, which may differ from your registrar.
- TXT
- Text records can include verification tokens and SPF. DKIM uses a selector under _domainkey; DMARC is checked at _dmarc, not just the root name.
- CNAME
- Alias to another hostname. Check both the alias and its target; never copy a target from an unrelated website.
